Hello all!

I am a researcher on computational genomics. In 2005 I joined the group of Dr. David Eisenberg at the UCLA-DOE Institute for Genomics and Proteomics located on the UCLA campus in Los Angeles, California.

My research areas of interest are Comparative Genomics, Lateral Genomics, Functional Genomics, Structural Genomics, Genome Annotation, Transcriptional regulation, analysis of genetic-metabolic networks, Molecular Evolution, Molecular Biology, Computer Science, Bayesian Statistics, Data mining and knowledge discovery.

You can see my resume here.

My background.

I got my Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering at the Chihuahua's Institute of Technology (ITCH), after that, I got a master's degree; in Electronics Engineering (also at ITCH) and majored in Computer Science. Then I moved to Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico, where I got my PhD degree in Biomedical Sciences (with major in Computational Genomics) at CCG -UNAM. My PhD thesis title was: On codon usage, translatability, gene expression, and horizontal gene transfer: Have we overinterpreted our model organisms? (it is written in Spanish). You can download it here.

My current work.

I'm working on several research lines:
And of course I'm willing to explore more fields of the fascinating world of biological sciences.

My Hobbies

I love music (jazz, blues, country, rock, classic, bossanova, bolero, samba, and so on), playing guitar, singing, dancing (specially Salsa and Tango), martial arts, gymnastics, learning foreign languages, traveling, movies and reading.
